Music Monday: Trampled by Turtles.

I can’t be the only who sometimes thinks, “I need a little more banjo in my life.” Well, even if I am I think you’ll agree that Trampled by Turtles is just what you need from time to time. With upbeat modern American folk style music, Trample by Turtles has become a soundtrack for summer. Their new album Stars and Satellites features some more great songs including the aptly named Walt Whitman and Beautiful.

Here is Wait So Long off of their 2010 release Palomino

Beautiful. (Not an official video but the song is oh so good)

Music Monday: William Fitzsimmons

I first heard William Fitzsimmons when he played a live set on a radio station in Columbia, MO. I was immediately drawn in by his simple yet smooth style. His lyrics are captivating and unravel some very intense stories usually taken from his real life experiences. The instrumentation of the song helps weave the tapestry of emotion caught up in each song. Pick up his album The Sparrow and The Crow or his newest release Gold in the Shadow.

He also has one of the best beards in music.

Music Monday: The Lumineers.

Lots of people have recently began to notice a band called The Lumineers. Their music has that modern American, folk-rock, roots,  just-feels-right-to-my-soul quality that I have come to love. Few bands really capture my attention like The Lumineers have. They have begun what could be the makings of the American dream story with rough beginnings and determination to what I’m sure will be success. As their website puts it, “Born out of sorrow, powered by passion, ripened by hard work, The Lumineers have found their sound when the world needs it most.”

Music Monday: Polock.

A good friend recently introduced me to Polock. My only question is why did it take me so long to find them? They sound so similar to Phoenix and are just flat out enjoyable.

Stripped down, acoustic versions of songs, such as this version of Faster Love, are often times my favorite.

Music Monday: Radical Face.

I stumbled upon Radical Face about 4 years ago when I was in college. Ben Cooper, the mastermind behind the act, writes brilliant lyrics and captures the spirit of them so well with the instrumentation. The Roots, Radical Face’s newest album was released last Ocotober. Cooper also has a number of other projects so don’t be surprised to see him featured on Music Monday in the future.

Today’s featured song is Welcome Home. I immediately fell in love with this song the first time I heard it and still regularly listen to it.  The video creates a fitting visualization of the lyrics helping portray the essence of the song.

Sheets are swaying from an old clothesline
Like a row of captured ghosts over old dead grass
Was never much but we made the most
Welcome home

Music Monday: Walk the Moon.

As summer approaches and the temperature rises, my music selection starts to include some more up beat tunes. This week’s Music Monday is a band that I’m sure will be a staple in the rotation. Walk the Moon has that summer, care free, dance-rock feel that encompasses summer.

Music Monday: Of Monsters and Men

A friend of my suggested that I listen to a band called Of Monsters and Men. Being that it sounded like an odd twist of the Steinbeck novel I figured they were a listen. It turns out that they have far exceeded my expectations and they have quickly become one of my favorite bands. King and Lionheart, Sloom andYellow Light are all great tracks on the album entitled My Head is an Animal. Little Talks is the first single released from it.

It’s admittedly a little weird but check out their video for Little Talks below:

Music Monday: The Head and the Heart.

Welcome to my new series, Music Monday. It’s pretty straight forward: it’s Monday and a post about music.

I recently saw The Head and the Heart in concert. Their album is incredible. The concert was better. I’m looking forward to their next album hopefully to come out soon. Until then, enjoy!
